THINGS TO EXPERIENCE IN COUNTRY WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The town of Pemberton in the south west on a Saturday moring. This is about as busy as it gets.

Pemberton Town main St

If you like peace and quiet and laid back lifestyle you'll love
our quiet country towns. This timber town is a stones throw from the
beautiful Karri forests, the third tallest of the worlds trees.

Road train in Carnarvon. Tourists need to be aware that these trucks travelling north and east can be pulling three or more trailers.

Road Train

Road trains carry all kinds of goods around the country

Merino sheep graze near York. Normally wheat and sheep farming go together, The sheep eating down the wheat stubble after harvesting the wheat.

Sheep and Wheat Farming

These go hand in hand and are a large part of Australia's export market.
Our Merino sheep are world renowned for their high quality wool.

Dairy cows enjoying a warm winters day. Dairy farms are found throughout the more coastal regions of the southwest, although deregulation in the milk industry has forced many small dairies to close operations and move on to a different venture, such as tree farming, etc. Lest we forget

Dairy Farm

Dairy farming is a big part of agriculture in the south west of the state.

Our driver Alan poses beside a pinnicle in the unique Pinnacle Desert.

Pinnacle Desert

A unique stark desert of limestone pillars caused by an extinct forest, the receding ocean and erosion.

Jill sits on one of the many large anthills that dot the landscape of the Pilbara.

North West Ant Hill

Much of the north of the state is very dry. The dirt is a the dark red colour that you see in
this photograph. This is a termite hill, one of many that stand out prominently on the desolate landscape.

Kangaroos are not the only thiing you have to look out for on the roads in the north and east of our state.

Beef Cattle

The large stations (farms) to the north and east of the state are far to vast to fence off, so care must be taken when driving.

A beach made up entirely of tiny shells near Sharks Bay.

Shell Beach

There are many empty white beaches in Western Australia, but this is one with a difference.
It is made up of millions of tiny shells, up to 10 mtrs deep and 60km long.
Found 45km south of Denham.
